How to Reach Darjeeling & Sikkim from Singapore

Planning a refreshing Himalayan getaway from Singapore to Darjeeling and Sikkim is easier than you might think. While there are no direct flights to the hills, the journey is smooth, scenic, and well-connected.

Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is the nearest airport to Darjeeling and Sikkim.

  • No direct flights; 1-stop connections via Kolkata (CCU), Delhi (DEL), or Bangalore (BLR)
  • Total travel time: approx. 8–12 hours
  • Bagdogra is the main gateway to the Eastern Himalayas

The most convenient way is to fly to Kolkata and take a domestic flight to Bagdogra.

You can also take a over night journey by train from Kolkata to NJP (New Jalpaiguri). NJP, located near Siliguri, is the nearest station to reach Darjeeling & Sikkim.

Overall, my wife and I had a great private tour starting and ending at Bagdogra airport. We visited Darjeeling, Sikkim and Bhutan within a span of two weeks in March 2019. Tsomgo Lake, North Sikkim etc are really stunning. We were sad we could not reach Nathula Pass and Yumthang Valley because of snow fall. Hope to return some day.
