Places to visit in Darjeeling 

Darjeeling ‘the queen of the hills’ is probably the most popular hill station in Eastern Himalaya situated at an evelation of 2250mt. (7500ft.). It lies in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Lava & Loleygaon these two places are small hamlets in the lap of the nature. You can see a magnificent view of Mt.Kanchandzonga from Loleygaon. Sandakphu is the highest point of West Bengal. It is a major tourist attraction in Darjeeling hills. You can drive up to Manebhanjan & trek to Sandakphu. There is also option for car safari to Sandakphu. Trek o Sandakphu  will require 3 days. It considered to be the trekkers’ paradise with mesmerising view of of Himalayan mountains. Lamahatta

An upcoming place to visit in Darjeeling hills. Lamahatta is a small hamlet just 20km away from Darjeeling town. It is a picturesque village with an eco park, popularly known as Lamahatta Eco Park. You can visit Lamahatta on the way between Darjeeling & Kalimpong or Gangtok. At an altitude of 6,800 ft the it is a calm & quite place surrounded by pine trees & prayer flags. It also offers a magnificent biew of Mt. Kanchendzonga right in front of you. There is a trek route that leads to a small lake.

 

Tinchuley

Tinchuley refers to Teen Chulhas or “Three Ovens”. The Tinchuley village is named after three huge hilltops surrounding the place which look like ovens in birds’ eye view. The village is located approx 26 km from Darjeeling town & approx 29km from Kalimpong beautifully facing the Kalimpong Hills. It is a well-developed tourist attraction. Around 17 families have been supported here by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to develop an organic model village to encourage village tourism.  Read more…

Darjeeling weather | Best time to visit 

You can plan your travel to Darjeeling Himalaya at any time of the year. Every season will offer you a different flavor. It mainly has five seasons.

Spring (March to April)

It is considered a very good season with moderate temperature. This is the time for rhododendrons, orchids & various flowers. Snow will also be visible in some parts of the district.

Summer (May to Jun)

As summer is not very hot. It draws the maximum no of tourist. Most of the regions of the region experience a temperature clime & it ranges from 150C (600F) to 280C (820F).

Monsoon (Jul to Mid Sep)

This is the time when the region gets maximum rainfall. Darjeeling is an ideal place to enjoy Indian monsoon with lush green tea gardens, hills along with beautiful clouds & fog. But heavy rain increases the risk of landslide during monsoon.

Autumn (Mid Sep to Nov)

Just after monsoon this is probably the best time to visit Darjeeling with clear sky & moderate temperature.  It is also a good time for photography.

Winter (Dec to Feb)

These are the coolest months & some parts of the district receive a snowfall. One can have snow in Sandakphu (32km from Darjeeling). The region has some of the highest snow capped peaks of the world.

How to Reach Darjeeling

By Air

The nearest operational airport in Bagdogra (IXB). Bagdogra airport is approx 75 km away from the city, Bagdogra is directly connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Paro & Bangkok. It is indirect connection all major cities in India.

By Rail

The nearest railway station is New Jalpauguri (NJP) located near Siliguri. NJP is well connected with all major cities in India. NJP is approx 72 km from Darjeeling city.

By Road

It is connected with Siliguri/Bagdogra/NJP through national National Highway 55 & 31A. North Bengal State transport Corporation (NBSTC) operates regular busses from Siliguri to various destinations like Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Mirik, Lava ect. Private buses are also available from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus.
