Itinerary – Gangtok tour package from NJP 4 Days

Day 01 : Siliguri/Bagdogra to Gangtok (135 km. / approx 4.30 hrs)

Welcome to Gangtok Tour Package from SIliguri . On arrival at Siliguri (NJP) railway station or Bagdogra (IXB) airport meet & greet by Navigator India’s representative. Drive from Bagdogra to Gangtok. On the way you you will visit Coronation Bridge & magnificent view of the river Tista.

Day 02 : Gangtok sightseeing

Proceed on a city tour in Gangtok  including Tashi view point, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman Tok; 3 view points offering panoramic view of snow capped Himalayan peaks & Gangtok city. Proceed to visit Rumtek Monastery/ Jhakri Falls (any one), Institute  of Tibetology to have a glance of Tibetan Thanka and antics, Orchid House (having numerous collection of orchids), Enchay Monastery ,Dodurl Chorten etc.  Rumtek Monastery is the Buddhist head quarter of India & an importent visiting place in you tour package of Gangtok.

Day 03 : Excursion to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir

Early in the morning (7.30 am) drive for an excursion to Tsomgo Lake. It is the most important tourist attraction your tour package to Gangtok. Tsomgo Lake is 32 km away from the city at an altitude of above 12,000 ft. & Baba Mandir another 01 hour drive. Enjoy yak ride around the lake (own cost).  Drive back to hotel for lunch. Enjoy your evening at MG Marg in Gangtok.

Note: Foreigner are not allowed to go to Baba Mandir. They can go up to Tsomgo Lake only accompanied by a local guide (compulsory). Guide charges to be paid extra.

Day 04 : Gangtok to Bagdogra /Siliguri  (135 km. / 4.30 hrs.)

Today is your farewell day for your Gangtok Tour Package from Siliguri/NJP. Drive back from Gangtok to Siliguri (NJP)/ Bagdogra (IXB) for your onward journey with happy memories to cherish.

Required Documents

• Tsomgo Lake – 2 copies passport size recent colour photographs & Photo ID proof (Passport/ Voter ID) for each & every guests. Minor may carry school/college ID along with photographs.
• Foreigners need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to enter Sikkim. It can be obtained from Sikkim Tourist Office at Rongpo, Bagdogra & Siliguri during office hours. All the guests must carry 2 copies passport size recent colour photographs & Passport.
• Foreigners need a Protected Area Permit to visit Tsomgo Lake. Permit can be obtained in Gangtok. All the guests must carry 2 copies passport size recent colour photographs, Passport & copy of Restricted Area Permit (RAP).

• Rates are not valid for festive seasons, summer vacation (May & June) & long weekends.
• Transportation will be provided as per itinerary only (not at disposal). Any additional transport service will be on extra cost.
• In case of AC car, AC will not be run on the hills. AC will be available in plains only.

Gangtok best time to visit | Gangtok snowfall time

You can plan your travel to Gangtok at any time of the year. Every season will offer you a different flavor. Weather in varies from sub-tropical in the south to tundra in the north. It mainly has five seasons.

Spring (March to April)

March to April it is considered a very good season with moderate temperature. This is the best time to see rhododendrons, orchids, various flowers & snowfall in Tsomgo Lake, Nathula Pass & sometimes in the city of Gangtok.

Summer (May to Jun)

As summer is not very hot in Gangtok. It draws the maximum no of tourist. The city experiences a temperature climate & it ranges from 18^oC (64^oF) to 25^oC (78^oF). This is the time Gangtok gets maximum no of tourists, hence it will incur a high cost.

Monsoon (Jul to Mid Sep)

July to mid September to this is the time when the state gets maximum rainfall. This is not considered to be a good season to visit the city. Heavy rain increases the risk of landslide during monsoon. But still it is an ideal place to enjoy Indian monsoon with lush green valleys, hills along with beautiful clouds & fog.

Autumn (Mid Sep to Nov)

October & November just after monsoon this is probably the best time to travel with clear sky & moderate temperature. Temperature ranges from 8^oC to 20^oC. It is also a good time for photography.

Winter (Dec to Feb)

These are the coolest months (temperature ranges from 4^oC to 14^OC) & some part of state receives a good volume of snowfall. One can have snow in North district & part of East district including Tsomgo Lake & Nathula Pass. Occasionally Gangtok also gets some snowfall. This is considered to be the best time to see snowfall in the city & other parts of the state.

How to Reach Gangtok 

By Air

The only airport in Sikkim is Pakyong (30 km). Pakyong is directly connected with Kolkata & Guwahati. Another operational airport is Bagdogra (IXB) located in West Bengal. Bagdogra to Gangtok is 125km, Pelling 145km & Namchi is approx 110km. Bagdogra is directly connected with Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai. Guwahati & Bangkok & it is indirect connection all major cities in India.

By Rail

Due to the geographic nature Sikkim does not have any railway connectivity. The nearest railway station is New Jalpauguri (NJP) located in neighboring state West Bengal. NJP is well connected with all major cities in India. NJP to Gangtok is 120km, Pelling 135km & Namchi is 98km.

By Road

Sikkim is connected with Siliguri/Bagdogra/NJP through national National Highway 31A. It connects West & South district through Melli & Gangtok (East) through Rongpo. Sikkim National Transport (SNT) operates regular busses from Siliguri to various destinations in Sikkim. Private buses are also available from Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus.

Tsomgo Lake

Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake) is located 30 Km from Gangtok on the way to Nathula Pass. it is the most important tourist attraction in Gangtok tour package. In Bhutia Lacguage the word Tsomgo means the ‘Source on Lakes’. At an altitude of approx 12,000 ft above the sea level it is the most visited place in Gangtok. the  Lake is oval in shape and approximately 1km. long. It has an average depth of about 50 ft. it was created by the snow melted water from the mountains around the lake & a river namely Lungtze Chu has been created from the Lake. Nathula Pass (optional)

Nathula Pass is one of the major attractions in Sikkim. Tourist often ask to include in their Gangtok tour package. It is a trade route which connect Sikkim with Tibet.It is situated just 56 km away (3 hrs drive) from Gangtok. The road passes through Tsomgo Lake (Changu Lake) another major tourist attraction in Sikkim. At an altitude of above 14,000 ft (4,200 mtr) Gangtok to Nathu la is one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Rumten Monastery

Rumten Monastery is 24km away from the city. After Tsomgo Lake it is the most important tourist spot. It also works as the Buddhist head quarter of India. The monastery was constructed in the year 1960 by the Gyalwa Karmapa, who was the 16^th Karmapa & settled in Sikkim in late fifties. Rumtek is the largest monastery of Sikkim. Just beside the monastery there is Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Studies with huge collection Buddhist.

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology

About one kilometer away from the Gangtok main market there is Namgyal Institute of Tibetology surrounded by magnolia, oak & brich trees. The institute building is a perfect example of Tibetan style of architecture & a major sightseeing point. It is one of the renowned institutes of the world with rare collection of books, documents & manuscripts on Buddhism. There is a huge volume of xylographs (printed wooden documents), translation of original teachings of the Lord Buddha & Buddhist scholars around the world. The institute also conducts research on Buddhism along with Tibetan culture & language. The adjoin museum has a rare collection of antiques like Thankas, coins & Buddhist sculpture. The foundation stone of the institute was laid by Dalai Lama in 1957 & was inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1958.

Tashi View Point

This is a view point in Gangtok, approx 8 km from the main market. The tourist spot with a view point, offers a panoramic view of the Himalaya including Mt. Kanchendzonga & Mt. Siniolchu.

Flower Exhibition Centre (Flower Show)

Not only the beautiful landscape, Sikkim ha s natural gift of more than 5000 species of flowering plants. The climatic condition has made this state a home to more than 600 species of orchids & 30 species of rhododendrons. To showcase this natural treasure a Flower Exhibition Centre has been established & is a must see attraction during Gangtok sightseeing. It is situated near White Hall, within a walking distance from MG Marg. Though the centre is open through the year, Mar to May will be the best time as the flowers will be in full blossom. International Flower Festival is organised every year tentatively in April.
